Home on the Rock welcomes new members into our group through New Member meetings. Meetings are held during the summer months and once in January.

At least one parent must attend a New Members’ meeting before joining HOTR, but both parents are encouraged to attend if possible. We regret that children cannot be accommodated at this adult meeting. Please make other arrangements for your children. (Nursing babies are always welcome.)  This meeting lasts about an hour and then you will have an opportunity to speak with our program leaders.

January 14th at 6:30 pm at Grove City Church of the Nazarene in the Hospitality Center.

Please RSVP at least 24 hours in advance to membership@homeontherock.org

The HOTR Geography Bee

Does your family follow current news events or pray for missionaries serving in other parts of the world?  Knowing geography makes these more meaningful.

One way to make this learning more fun is to participate in the Home on the Rock Geography Bee.  The geography bee is a fun way for students to pit their knowledge of locations, cultures, landforms, and current events against other homeschoolers in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere.

The HOTR geography bee will be taking place Thursday, January 10th, at 10:00 a.m. at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 3005 Holt Road, Grove City, OH 43123. The HOTR Geography Bee is open to any child in grades 4 through 8 who is a part of Home on the Rock or is homeschooled in Franklin County. The cost is $5.00 per student.

The National Geographic website posts sample questions daily, in a fun, interactive format.  Try it at https://www.nationalgeographic.org/bee/study/. There is also a Geobee Challenge App available to download. Students can use the app to access a library of 1300 questions. The GeoBee has teamed up with Kahoot!, a free game-based learning platform that makes it fun to learn, provide engaging quizzes to help students study for the GeoBee. Using Kahoot! To prepare for the GoeBee is fun, easy, and free. Quiz links and instructions are available at https://www.nationalgeographic.org/bee/study/play-kahoot/.

Each bee participant will receive a certificate of participation and a goodie bag.  Quiet siblings, parents, and friends are welcome to come watch the bee.  The winner of the HOTR bee will receive a medal and take a written test at a later time.  If our winner has one of the top 100 scores in Ohio, he or she will qualify for the State Geography Bee, which is held in early April.

“[The Birth of Jesus Foretold] In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.””(Daily Reading, ESV)
